    Crossing

    April 22nd, 2009

Ok, so I’m straight piggy-backing off of last week’s blog.  Seriously, my world has been turned upside down in the past two weeks… literally.  And I must say… it’s freaking addicting.

And no, I’m not talking about flipping houses (my first love).  I’m talking about our humanitarian ventures.

Less than a year ago, I wrote down my goals.  I wrote down professional, personal and spiritual goals.  I categorized them into groups of 3-5 year goals, and 20 year goals.  Literally, one of my 3-5 year goals was to start, or contribute to a charity, or non-profit.

A few weeks later, Jason called…

I know.  Freaked me out, too.  But, if you’ve read my book, you know how much I believe in writing down goals.  It’s like a personal letter to God, or something.  For some reason, writing them down makes them come true.  Crazy, but true.

So, last week, we partnered with a global effort, called LiNK.  We watched the movie, Crossing.  I cried my eyes out…

Ok, so I didn’t actually cry.  I did, though, manage to conjure up every bit of strength I had, to keep the tears from falling down my face.  I mean, I was in a room full of people, most of which I didn’t know.

I couldn’t let them see The Maestro cry.  No what I mean…

Here’s the bottom line.  North Korea… is Nazi Germany.  Crazy Kim is Hitler.  And the North Korean people are the Jews.  Plain and simple.  You doubt my veracity?

Watch this.  Then, go HERE and register for the 9 Lives program.  I did.  It’s $9 a month.  That’s what I spend when I go to lunch… 5 days a week.  So I miss one lunch a month.  Is that worth saving a life?

    I think so.

Get involved.  Remember, we reap what we sow.  And, as the old cliche’ goes, what goes around, comes around.  Being a humanitarian will give you so much joy, you won’t be able to handle it all.

And what goes around… comes around.

    Invisible Children

    April 14th, 2009

Last night, I saw the most ridiculously sad, and heartbreaking, documentary, that I’ve EVER seen.  Afterward, I promptly thanked my friend, and founder of Current, Jason Sowell, for ruining my night.  And life, for that matter…

Because now, I HAVE to do something.  That’s right, the Maestro is on the case.

Look, it’s one thing when people are abducted, abused or oppressed.  It’s another when it’s children.  And that’s exactly what is going on in Northern Uganda, located in Africa.  And don’t give me any crap about how you don’t care about people in other countries.  And how Americans have it tough right now.

    Spare me.

I know a bunch of people who have been laid off lately, and I feel for them all.  However, every single one of them goes to sleep in a bed, eats three meals a day and lives a free life.

Not the children of Uganda.  Actually, many of them are not children anymore.  A more appropriate title may be “slaves.”  Slaves – 5 to 12 yr olds – that are forced to carry assault rifles for fear of mutilation or death, trained to kill, desensitized to brutality and violence… and robbed of their freedom.

    Yep.  That is more appropriate…

Folks, I implore you.  Get over to Invisible Children right now and get educated.  Then, get involved.  The DVD is $15.  It’s $15 you can’t afford NOT to spend.  Be aware, though.  You’ll either be fighting back the tears… or balling your eyes out, when it’s over.  Also be aware that I profit nothing by this.  My only profit is the feeling of knowing I’m helping.

Look, wholesaling is my profession… and I freaking love it.  I love the life I’ve built.  I love the luxuries my hard work has afforded me.  But let me tell you, I love something so much more.

    My fellow man.

I am a huge believer in the notion that we reap what we sow.  And a life without purpose, is not a life at all.  Helping to rescue just one child from abduction, rape, beatings and/or death, is so much more fulfilling than flipping a house, or depositing a check.  Because in the end, isn’t it our duty as human beings to look after those who are less fortunate?

    I think it is.

It’s our duty to be educated.  To know that every place in the world isn’t America.  To realize that saving a life is better than saving our pennies.  And to live a life of purpose.

I pray that you believe me.  If you watch this DVD, you will…
